Om Russlands avfolking (færre fødsler/flere dødsfall) som førte til en negativ befolkningsvekst på 7 millioner fra 1990 til 2009:

“There is no obvious external application of state force to relieve, no obvious fateful and unnatural misfortune to weather, in the hopes of reversing this particular population decline,” [...] “Consequently, it is impossible to predict when (or even whether) Russia’s present, ongoing depopulation will finally come to an end.”

En av årsakene kan ha vært mangel på håp.
